These little girls admire teenage girls so very much, and since we have a bunch of positive role models in line we should take advantage of that admiration to encourage a positive future for the young ones. As of last night, I have reached this goal! Except for sweeper, which I will also be attending. The weekend of April 20-21 will definately be a chaotic one, seeing as it is both Teen Forum and the Sweeper Pageant.

It was so exciting to be featured in my hometown (and school) with the Miss Clark County pageant last night. They brought me tears multiple times, but I think that I weep more than the average pageant queen.

Anywho, I owe a big thank you to all of the sponsors for the MCCSO; particularly, EHX, DreamCapture, Smokeys, and Applebee's. Thank you for making me look good, and keeping me fully nourished this past week...nummm to pizza and oriental chicken salad.

Well, my time is coming to an end. I know I still have more than a month left, but it feels as though it's coming WAY too fast. I think the feeling of conclusiveness is driven from the ominous application link on the website.

No matter the amount of dread I have regarding the events that will be transpiring on Memorial Day Weekend :( ... it is still my responsibility to encourage as many girls as is humanly possible to participate in this amazing program. At this time, we still have room for more contestants and I encourage you (yes, you. my faithful blog reader) to suggest this notion to girls you know between the ages of 13-17. Don't forget, they can always contact Sally and Allie, or if they would rather hear from a contestant they can email me at genayrochelle@yahoo.com or contact me via myspace at www.myspace.com/mwot

AND HOW COULD I FORGET OUR WONDERFUL PINECONE PRINCESSES!?!?!?!

Much love,
Your soon to be expired...Miss Washington's Outstanding Teen
Genay

Miss Auburn!

I was soooooooo sad, when I couldn't make it to the Miss Grays Harbor Pageant, but sooooooo excited that I got to go to the Miss Auburn Pageant. Although, catching back up in school is not as fun as it may sound. No big deal though, it was totally worth the fun times I had!

Friday was, by far, my busiest day of the week! I started out my morning with a good cry at the Miss America VIP breakfast. This is where I got to meet a whole bunch of Miss Americas and volunteers.

After the breakfast, I got ready for the TEEN outing!!! WAHOOOOOOOO!!!!! This was so much fun, even though we didn't get to go to Circus, Circus like we had intended (the strip was virtually closed, because of the fire at the Monte Carlo that morning.) Us, teens, don't need much to have an enjoyable time! All of us went to Maggiano's (great food with great people is always fun). The bus ride to Maggiano's is where I realized that I am a decent beat boxer. That combined with Abby, Miss Oregon's Outstanding Teen's, ability to rap made us quite the duo of bus entertainment. Don't worry though, we weren't the only ones performing on the bus. All of us sang and danced, "You Can't Stop The Beat" one of our production numbers. At Maggiano's my table ate 3 cheesecakes in less than 5 minutes!!!!!!! Maybe we should enter an eating contest next time?

After our lunch at Maggiano's, most of the teens got together at Hard Rock Cafe to celebrate Elena's (Miss Pennsylvania's Outstanding Teen's) 16th birthday! This was so totally rockin'!

Sadly, I had to leave Elena's party early. I wanted to make sure I was back in time to watch the last episode of the Miss America: Reality Check with the Washington Crew! I'm so glad I did!!!! I was so excited for Elyse, Indiana, and New Mexico...that I tackled Morgan, Miss Indiana's Outstanding Teen, during the announcement. Of course, we had to get a picture of the Top Three's Outstanding Teens.

Saturday, the winner of the Caitlin's Closet challenge was announced. Congratulations to North Carolina for bringing in 174* dresses!!!!

After the announcement, I got to hang out with Miss Indiana's Outstanding Teen and her entourage! We had a lot of fun going to M&M world, seeing Elvis times 2 (Elvises? Elvisi? Elvisie?), eating our first chocolate covered frozen banana, and wandering the Bellagio. Thank you guys so much, for letting me invade your Indiana-ness with some Washington-ness. (In my Elvis voice) thank you, thank you very much.

Don't worry...I didn't forget to mention...THE MISS AMERICA PAGEANT!

I am so proud of my Miss!!!! I am tickled silly to be cheering for our wonderful WA girl!!! Although, I am far to ADD to be in such a crazy city; the lights, the noises, and the crown. It is so cool to be able to watch all our Miss America contestants. As you avid bloggers know, I always watch the Miss America: Reality Check on TLC. Which has been so cool, because now I feel like I know each of these contestants, just from those small little inputs on TLC.com and the show.

But back to the GOOD STUFF!!!

Elyse looks fantastic, and she has by far the greatest introduction of the bunch. "I'm Elyse Umemoto, Miss Washington...How do you like them apples?"

Tuesday night, she competed in onstage question and blew it out of the water.
Last night she did swimsuit and evening gown and looked simply divine.

Oh, but what has your Outstanding Teen been doing in Sin City, since she can't gamble? SHOPPING, of course! I did not know that you could have a mall...in a hotel, oh and did I mention the HUGE theatre? The tradeshow has the "blingiest" stuff, I've ever seen. You guys think my wardrobe is sparkly...oh, you have no idea. Las Vegas is definately extreme. I think it's so great that they have the program here, the city definately has a personality and character of its own.

This morning, I got to do an autograph signing with all of my sisters from ORLANDO!

It's so nice to see some familiar smiling faces. I've had a lot of fun reconnecting with all of my girls. Especially, my MAOTT (Miss America's Outstanding TALL Teens) friends.

I had a lot of fun with my MAOT sisters doing interviews for MTV's new "How's Your News."

My favorite part so far has been getting to meet some of the previous Miss America titleholders. They are some of the sweetest and most gracious people I've ever met.

Maybe next time I write, we'll have a Miss America from Washington!!!
~Genay

The Miss Spokane's Outstanding Teen Pageant

I had so much fun going to the Miss Spokane's Outstanding Teen Pageant. This was my very first Outstanding Teen pageant, that I got to watch...if you count being an active show member as viewing the pageant.

It was so much fun getting to meet these girls and all of their adorable princesses. They all did an amazin job of maintaining their poise and grace on stage. Spokane has a lot to be proud of. All of them would have represented Spokane well, and even Washington, for that matter (hint, hint. nudge, nudge...all 6 of them should come to MWOT.)

It was also nice visiting some familiar faces that I don't get to see nearly enough, Tori and Emily! Both of these ladies are amazing role models. It is no wonder that the contestants are as amazingly well-rounded as they are with the great role models that they have in both Tori and Emily.

Cheri and Bev of the Miss Spokane's Outstanding Teen Program were exceptionally hospitable to me and my family. They fed us, and made sure we each had a place to stay for the night. I couldn't have asked for a better first local teen appearance! Not too mention, we all just had a lot of fun together.

In the pageant, I was able to perform two talents (a tap and a ballet), have some microphone time, and assist in the award ceremonies. I am so thankful to everyone who came and supported the program, along with everyone working behind the scenes to make the show run as smoothly as it did.

I would like to congratulate Chloe Maier, Trisha D'Agostino, Madison Martin, Katelyn Assmus, Ann Stephenson, and McKenzi Novell on a job well done. I know just how hard it is to stand up in front of a bunch of strangers and allow them to analyze you, and each of you handled that situation with grace and elegance.

Congratulations to McKenzi Novell, Miss Spokane's Outstanding Teen 2008!

~Genay

Performing a ballet on point to "Not While I'm Around," from Sweeney Todd.

McKenzi Novell during her crowning moment!

The Outstanding Teens and Princesses of Spokane.

The Judges...I do not envy their job.

The fish face is now legendary.

McKenzi and I! Everyone did such an amazing job. The show fell together perfectly (well, almost perfectly--I think functional zippers are allergic to me.) Other than my slight fashion mishap, the show was wonderful! Elyse's wardrobe is amazing, and she will make all of Washington proud in Vegas. I couldn't have asked for a better Miss/mentor. I'm so excited for her, and only hope she doesn't forget us little people when she makes the big time. I can't wait to cheer her on in Vegas. AHHH, Genay's first time in Sin City.

There were some representatives from the Miss Washington 2007 class who came to support Elyse and show off some stellar fashions. These ladies are so amazing. I really owe Devanni, Tina, Kelly, Liz, Shannon, Sara, Elyse, Fianna, Mrs. Dickson, Sarah-lynn, and Momma Duck huge thank you's for all of their help backstage. From helping me get zipped to dealing with the mess I made of the dressing room. It seems as though this program always has me surrounded with the greatest people in Washington, I'm so spoiled. Oh, and another way that I'm spoiled- my fabulous directors both stuffed the raffles to win me a zebra print dress. For those of you who know me well, you know that I am so into zebra print. From dresses to purses to pillows...it's kind of a lucky charm for me. It's so cool that they actually won, and now I have this really fun statue. It's beautiful! I also got to perform Dreamgirls today, and surprisingly there were quite a few people who hadn't seen this number yet. The feedback and support I get with virtually everything I perform (except for when I attempted to sing Celine Dion to Sally) is unbelievable. I really can't take much credit, Nicole is really one of the most amazing dancers I've ever gotten to work with. This was so much fun. I can't wait to work with all these amazing girls. More importantly, I am so excited that their teen program has grown, last year there were 8 teens and this year they have 13(knock on wood). I've really had a blast meeting everyone and offering small things I've learned through this organization. Once again, I'd like to extend myself to all other counties, particularly those holding Outstanding Teen programs. I would love to work at the workshops, just to meet the young ladies and future representatives.

On another note, I am so excited to do the Miss Washington Fashion Show next weekend. It is just one last hoorah to wish Elyse the best of luck at Nationals. And, of course, I have this groovy new cocktail dress to wear. By new, I mean really old formal wear that has been revamped into a schnazzy cocktail dress! Thanks to Fianna for all of her hard work on the Fashion Show, I know it will be amazing.

LOVE,
Genay

(ps-Keep voting for Elyse!)

She's just reppin' the WA!

So, I hope that everyone was watching TLC's Miss America Reality Check tonight!

Elyse looked amazing, as usual. She did such a great job representing us, and got lots of air time (because she's amazing).

Although, I will admit Washingtonians have a teensie-weensie bit of an advantage when it comes to flag finding challenges; amidst all the red and blue, that green flag sticks out like a sore thumb! I'm so proud that she's my miss and she was absolutely fabulous!

I only have one question, why didn't the teens do this! I think it's great that they're modernizing the pageant to embrace new generations. It will only make the Miss America title to new levels, making her a more recognized icon and role model. Teens can do this, too! And plus, it just looks like a whole lot of fun!

Did you notice that Maine and Washington were in the same group? It makes me miss my best buddy, Miss Maine's Outstanding Teen, who is now unable to go to Miss America.

I, MWOT, challenge you, blog reader, to hurry up and vote for ELYSE!!!!!

In order to do so you must...

A) Go to the little address bar at the top of your screen and type in www.tlc.com/missamerica
B) Look to the far left of your screen. Here you will find a scroll down that says, "Vote for America's Girl"
C) Roll down the alphabet until you get to the W's.
D) Find Washington.
E) Click "go".
F) Now you will be brought to a page that has a loverly photo of our dearest Elyse.
G) Click "vote now"
H) If you have a pop-up blocker you might have to hold down the control button while clicking on the "vote now" button.
I) Fill out the various information the pop-up asks you for.
J) THEN SEND ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS TO FOLLOW SUIT!

What are you waiting for? GO! GO! GO!

oh...and on a side note to Elyse- Really, 5 lbs of gummy worms!?!?!? My family is all over the Christmas celebration scene. We're super into holiday music, movies, and decorating. That combined with my inability to be decisive, makes picking an absolute favorite holiday movie extremely difficult. I know this isn't really a pageant related blog, but this year was my very first white Christmas. WAHOOOO!!!! It didn't stick, but it was definately snowing. This is incredibly exciting for me!

I hope all of you had as exciting of a Christmas as my family and I did!

Ryan, Terissa, and I on the Tucker girls' first white Christmas!

I'll be the first to admit, I'm a terrible blogger.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Devine Kwanzaa, and a wonderful start to 2008!

I am so unbelievably sorry for the delay on the blog entries. I really hate to post excuses, but I have been exceptionally busy with senior year, college finals, my job, pageanting (my other, more glamorous, job), and holiday shopping!

Since my last post, I was able to participate in one of my biggest appearances of the year. I was able to be a representative and key part of the Prevention at the Summit. This was such a great experience for me. Tony Masias, a former judge, hooked up this little schindig. This event was amazing, simply AMAZING, I TELL YOU! I got to meet people from all across the state who are working to find new and unique ways to spread the ideas of prevention throughout their communities. I had so much fun working with the community leaders and representatives. I was able to participate in various activities throughout the weekend. One of my favorites was simply a group discussion. It was just a passing and sharing of ideas and plans that had worked in certain communities. This was also a time to address any questions you had. Everyone got really into this, and I heard some amazing plans. I also learned an awful lot. For instance, did you know that energy drinks contain alcohol. In fact, they are actually sponsored primarily by beer companies. I, sitting in a pool of naivety, had absolutely no clue about this. I guess now I'll just have to suck all my energy from coffee.

MY FAVORITE PART OF THIS EVENT, was no doubt the rally. This was so great. This was really where I got to see the teens take action. I take that back, not just teens. There were kids. I was walking in protest of cigarette smoking with everyone from ages 7-18. It was so inspiring to see all of these kids and young adults stepping up to the plate. I am so proud to see that I represent a group of people so willing to stand up and work to see positive change. Sometimes, I look around and see kids my age more interested in Halo 2, than the well being of their communities. Not these kids. So many of these kids came up to me saying they were so excited to meet me, which is really just silly. It was me who was really excited. It proved that I'm not a lunatic, and kids who care...really do exist. I'm not the only one. I'm not saying I though all teenagers were rebellious slackers, but I had never seen such a large group of kids standing up for what they believe in. It was amazing. I really hope that this is an event that continues to work with the Miss Washington's Outstanding Teen Organization in the years to come. I can't think of one person who couldn't improve from being around such great people.

Oh, and after the rally...there was a DANCE party. Now those of you who have seen me dance know that I'm not really down with the hip moves of today. I can't drop it like it's hot, but I do have a mighty fine sprinkler dance. I can twist and shout until the break of dawn. I actually think that most of the kids were surprised and my rad-tastic nostalgic dance moves. It was so much fun. This was also where I got to talk to lots of the kids individually. On a side note, I have never been asked to dance as many times as I was that night. Apparently, there are a lot of young boys in Washington who dream of dancing with Miss Washington's Outstanding Teen.

That was just the first day! Believe it or not, there was more to follow. The next morning, I had my very first African Drum Lesson. I was surprisingly bad for being a tap dancer. I thought that I would be good, because of my previous work with rhythms and riffs. Not the case. We were doing easy stuff and I was struggling. Don't worry though, I've been practicing my "peanut butter and jelly" song.

Hmm....what else have I done?

I got to attend the opening of a Century 21 in Vancouver, WA. This was fun. I got to support one of my biggest supporters Marina (we pulled a switcherooni).

More recently, I was invited to the Mustang Club's Christmas Party. I am so pampered at these events. They really are just too kind to me. They gave me my own Mustang. I know crazy, right?!?!?! Cardboard, but still really cool. They also fed me a great meal (followed by delicious cake.) Not too mention the gift exchange and the great gifts. They really are too sweet. This was so much fun to attend. It's nice to see programs like that embracing our scholarship organization. I'm sure you've seen pictures of the little red mustang with the cobra on the side. The drivers of this lovely vehicle, Gil and Darlene, have basically adopted me as their permanent parade passenger. I love both of them, so much. They really are amazing people. They're so sweet. I was so proud of them (I actually gave them a standing ovation) when they won the Mustanger of the Year award!

I also got to be Santa’s helper. Yes, I actually got to work with the one and only. The most popular man this time of year! We had lots of fun together. He is just so jolly! It was so much fun delivering presents and seeing all of those smiling faces.

My most recent event was a Christmas celebration with the 50 & Better program at the Luepke Center. This was my second time working with this program, and hopefully not my last. It’s really great for me to listen to the advice these wonderful people have to offer me. I loved seeing some familiar faces, and making new friends. I also got to see some old friends from the Loaves and Fishes program. It’s always so great to spread holiday cheer to old friends, new friends, and future friends. I was even offered a dance by one of the members of the 50 and over program. I might just be attending their holiday dance! How fun would that be? Maybe my twist and shout will be better appreciated with this generation?

As a state, we should keep those on the coast in our thoughts and prayers. That’s a hard situation to be in, especially during the holidays.

RECRUITING! With the New Year coming, I am both very excited for a new year and new experiences and very sad that my year in reign is coming to an end.  Most of you are saying, “but Genay, you have until May.” Yes, I know, but the recruiting has begun. I am so excited to meet and work with all of these new contestants, as well as being sad that this part of my life is almost over. Alas, I’ll save this for my last blog. This paragraph was really supposed to be about recruiting. My Christmas wish this year is to have at least 30 teen contestants. I know that’s a lot for Santa to fit down my chimney. In order to make this easier, I figured I rely on Christmas spirit to spread the word. Santa is only one man, and he wouldn’t want to take these 30 amazingly talented, gorgeous, and intelligent girls from their loving families during the holidays. I’ve decided to make the wish extend past Christmas. In fact, they don’t even have to see me until forum, if they don’t want to. However, if you know anyone who could possibly, even maybe, be slightly, or a teensie weensie bit interested, you should ask them to check out this (our website) and our brand new MySpace http://www.myspace.com/mwot for more information. There they will be able to contact me directly, and I will pass on the knowledge I have gained in these past few years with the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Organization.

Last but certainly not least…ELYSE! The future Miss America? I definitely think she would make a great representative. I’m so excited to go to Las Vegas (my first time in Sin City) to cheer on my pageant owner. She is going to do so well. She is such an amazing person, on and off stage. She is genuinely inspiring, and a winner no matter what. Don’t forget to send her your love, I would say luck, but we’re in Vegas…you can’t be much luckier than that, right?

~Happy Holidays
Genay

The No STANK you fairy. It was a really powerful experience, one that I will hopefully remember for the rest of my life. I was able to meet women from programs all throughout Washington who had personally struggled with escaping domestic violence. Everyone working and volunteering was so kind and extremely welcoming. Whether it was offering me warm tea to or a cozy jacket, everyone was so sweet.

I had an absolute blast being a cheerleader, too!

I hope I'll be able to return next year and actually participate in the walk (without high heels) and watch this program grow.

I really hope that next year's Miss Washington's Outstanding Teen is able to participate in this amazing program.

On our way home we stopped by for a haircut (I was getting desperate) with Jake from Gene Juarez. Once again, my hair looks fabulous! Now, I'm prepared for the upcoming "pageant rush."

We go together like Seattle and Starbucks

Since the last blog, I have made a huge dent in my mentor club for the US Dream Academy. I have started working with people in Vancouver School District, and have started looking through arts and craft books along with fun stuff for the kids to read!

I was also able to go up to the Miss Seattle pageant with my mommy. We had a blast watching Elyse emcee! All we need now, is a teen program ::hint hint...wink wink::

Congratulations to Miss Seattle 2008, Allison Rone and Miss Emerald City 2008, Ada Rose Williams.

They, along with the rest of the contestants, truly sparkled on stage!

After the pageant, my mother, Sally, and I went to Red Robin for a truly glamorous meal. Then it was back on the road for a long trip back to Vancouver. Well, in actuality, it was a long trip for my mom and a long nap for me.

Then the next morning it was an early morning to make it back north for Elyse's welcome home party. She is such a sweetheart and it was great to hear her talk about each of her adventures and how much of an impact everyone has had on her and her journey thus far. I know, she'll represent Washington well! And what could I possibly do without my miss?!?!?!

Alas, now I am home writing a blog and preparing for my first day of school tomorrow. At 7 AM tomorrow I will officially be a senior in high school!!!

HOW COOL!?!?!?!

~Genay

Ada Rose Williams, Miss Emerald City 2008 and Allison Rone, Miss Seattle 2008 with Elyse and I.

We're goofballs.

This is Miss Tri-Cities, Kristin Cox and I being fish. It was a lot of fun working with different colors and shading! We had lots of fun telling stories and playing with make up.

It was so great to be able to come back and do an event with my local buddies at the our Vancouver Uptown Festival. I was able to perform two of my tap solos, along with participate in a small parade. It was also lots of fun talking with the local vendors, and meeting some of the kids from across Vancouver.

At the festival I donated blood for the very first time. This was defiantely a cool experience! I was able to save roughly 3 lives with my small donation.

Congratulations to Miss Washington's Outstanding Teen 2005, Shalane Larango, for being such a great representation of our state at the Miss Teen USA program this past week! Therefore, I tried to take notes everyday in order to provide decent reflections on my experience!

On August 1st, my grandmother and father saw my mother, sister and I off from the Portland airport (at 4:30 AM, might I add.) After grabbing a quick bite to eat and a venti white mocha from starbucks, we were off with my overstuffed pink luggage (Thanks Sally and Allie!) Although I was completely exhausted, I struggled with sleeping. I was just TOO EXCITED to sleep! During the flight to Orlando, the flight attendent introduced Terissa and I over the speaker! After recieving thunderous applause, we sat and ate our honey roasted peanuts. MMMMMMMM.. On the flight over I read my pageant bible, along with some newspapers to keep up on current events, and one fun teen magazine (I have to have SOME teen time!)

We arrived in the Sunshine State only to be greeted by a torrential downpour. Believe it or not, this made me feel more than welcome! It was almost as though God was sending me bits of Washington weather in Orlando! Too bad I didn't have my umbrella. After finally finding our hotel and unpacking the luggage, we went to bed to prepare for a busy day starting a very hectic and stressful upcoming week and a half.

On August 2nd, I arrived early for check in. I'm glad I did too, people who showed up right on time or shortly after ended up waiting for hours to get through the lines and photo shoots. I had so much fun getting to wear a beautiful Tony Bowls by Mon Cheri dress for a photo shoot with Zac Grimaldo. The photos for all of the contestants turned out amazing. I also got to do a quick video interview for the final night of pageant along with a talent introduction, autograph signing, and check in.

I was given a friendly surprise from Tony Masias, one of the judges who made allowed me the experiences I have recieved as Miss Washington's Outstanding Teen, just happened to be in Orlando at the same hotel for an Alcohol Awareness Program. It was so great to see a familiar face! I'm hoping to be able to work with him later this year for the Alcohol Awareness Program here in Washington.

I'm sure those who know the Miss Washington board well will appreciate my video answer for my personal motto; "Be Gracious and Flexible." This phrase is all that gets me through the stressful times associated with balancing crazy schedules! Our pool party for this first day was cancelled due to rain, but we had a very fun indoor dancing party. This was really my last day with my mom and sister before spending the next week and a half with my amazing roommate from Hawaii, Moani Hara.

August 3rd, no more fun and games ladies! Yesterday was partying and photo shoots, today is rehearsals all day. We woke up at a much too early time for rehearsals at the Orange County Convention Center. However with Pam Bolling's peppy attitude and fun choreography we were up and running in no time! I had an absolute blast learning our Flag opening number/Shine, our athletic wear, Lady in red, and Hairspray(this one was my FAVORITE!)

On this night, we got to go to Medieval Times! This was SO MUCH FUN! I have never been to a place like this before, so it was a totally new experience. I was also extremely excited to have the opportunity to carry the Washington State Flag across the arena! The food was delicious. Although, it was a little awkward eating chicken with my hands. It was also a blast being in the cheering section for the knights during the jousting competition! We also got to see the very handsome knights! What girl doesn't dream of a knight in shining armor?!?!

The next day we had a half day of rehearsals! We got to meet the Second Story Guys! Four very talented guys who you might know from America's Got Talent! I'll give you a hint... they dance on stilts. This was so cool to watch, and probably just a little teensie bit distracting from the rehearsals. You try paying attention when there are 4, 10-foot tall guys doing back flips over each other!

After lunch we got a brief (minute, would probably be a better word) break, before we changed into our school t-shirts to film the opening for finals night! We also got to film an opening waving segment for Good Morning America!

After getting hair and make up done (I felt like a princess), I was able to film with Miss Virginia, Miss West Virginia, and Miss Wyoming! WAHOOO, for the end of the alphabet! This was a lot of fun! These girls are so sweet!

After a short break, we changed into our state T-shirts (Thanks Peggy!) This is where we got a SHOPPING TRIP!! Since we were catching on to the choreography so quickly we were allowed some fun time and cool events! We went to Pointe Orlando and ate dinner at Johnny Rockets. My waiter was, ironically, from WASHINGTON! They fed us delicious hamburgers and gave us each a beautiful rose! A few of us even went up and danced with the workers!!!! If you look at the national's video closely, you might just see me tangoing with the Johnny Rockets rose wedged between my teeth!

This event was so much fun! Miss South Dakota, Miss North Dakota, and Miss Wyoming were my table mates! We had a blast singing into ketchup bottles and dancing at the table! We also got to see a very talented young man do some really cool yo-yo tricks!

L'Occitane (a beauty shop in Pointe Orlando) gave us each little gift bags. We also got all sorts of cool coupons from the Pointe Orlando people! During our shopping experience some of the other girls thought I was insane. I'll tell you the story in quick written form. (Although, I will admit the story is much more entertaining in person. For some odd reason, my hand gestures and crazy facial expressions add a lot to the story!) As we're shopping many of the girls got excited by the Victoria's Secret or the 50% off shoes sign. I, on the other hand, literally gasped and ran when I saw that green mermaid. Yes...Starbucks. I was unable to get coffee until this point, and I think I was the only contestant going through withdrawals! I do believe that was the best Venti Iced White Mocha, I have ever had. I think the barista probably thought I was insane as well. I was basically beaming when we entered the little Italian themed coffee spot. After the way I ran into the shop, he probably thought caffeine was the last thing I needed. However, I desperately needed a caffeine jolt.

After our short shopping trip, we got to go to Wonderworks. This is probably one of the COOLEST places! First off, the building is UPSIDE DOWN! The roof is on the ground. It's basically impossible to miss. Right when you enter the building you're inside this giant spinning tube, that is dark, and really hard to see through. It was sooooooooooo hilarious, just hearing all kinds of high pitched screams coming from the dizzy tube as I dubbed it later. Other than that there were all sorts of cool mind tricks, and tech games. Maine and I won a name that tune: theme song edition game! We also did virtual dancing games. There was also a giant bubble maker. We had a lot of fun in the shadow room, I felt like Peter Pan, because you take a picture of your shadow and then you walk away and your shadow is still hanging on the wall. This was so cool. I tried taking a picture of my shadow, but the flash ruined it. So sadly, there is no documentation of this. You just have to trust me that it was purely rad! There were even pictures painted with bubble gum! We even got to go on a virtual roller coaster!

On August 5th, I had a full day of rehearsal! While members of the red and white groups did their private interview! (dunh dunh dunh.)

However, after a crazy day of interviews and rehearsals we had a nice dinner at Maggiano's. This was a lot of fun, we even got to sing happy birthday to Miss DC. Afterwards, we went to Regal Cinemas at Pointe Orlando where we got to see HAIRSPRAY! Now, I know what some of you are thinking-"Genay, you've already seen Hairspray!" Too True. Too True. However, this movie will absolutely never get old! With a combination of good dancing, great music, and Zac Efron...it's basically impossible to screw up! It was also a lot of fun seeing it with a group of crazy girls! It was fun watching all 52 of us share 1 bucket of popcorn!

The next day, we had a day of pampering at Bloomingdales. I bought a new pair of black heels, and a bag of candy. I was also able to get another starbucks!!! After my beautiful makeover I got ready for my interview! Well...so I thought! I was surprised by a banging on the door, it was apparently time to turn in all of our wardrobe. In a slightly stressful rush, I managed to pack everything quickly! I maintained my composure despite the stress...all thanks to "gracious and flexible!"

After a moment of stress, I was able to return to my room and continue to prepare for my interview. My interview went extremely well! The judges were all really great. My only complaint is the time, I needed more of it! I could have sat there with the judges for hours just hanging out (well...if it was going to be hours, a chair would be nice.)

After the blue group interviews, we were able to visit the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Trade Show! I saw posters signed by previous Washington state titleholders, Shalane Larango and Steffanie Range! I also got an absolutely adorable hot pink crown purse! After a short shopping trip, we were allowed our pool party. The weather finally cleared up, to my dissappointment actually, because now I have a Miss America's Outstanding Teen umbrella. However, after about 20 minutes in the pool I saw a flash of lightning. I don't think I've ever moved so fast in my life. I jumped out of that pool about as fast as I would've had I heard jaws music suddenly! Although, we didn't get a picture of it, Miss North Carolina and I had matching swimsuits, and Indiana and I had matching swimsuit covers!

August 7th, was the first day of on stage competition! I got to perform athletic wear, along with onstage question. Both went well, and I was so excited to see Elyse, Sally, Allie, Mom, Dad, Grandma, Terissa, Teri, and Brad, along with other pageant friends cheering out in the audience. More than anything I loved visitation afterwards! It was so nice just to talk with some Washington folk! Once again, my only complaint is time. I just wish I got more than 30 minutes!!

August 8th, was more rehearsals and the seconde day of onstage competition! This time I got to perform my talent to Dreamgirls, choreographed by the amazing Nichole Abrahamson! She is such a fantastic dancer and a great person! Despite some asthma problems, which were solved with assistance from the nurse and Debbie, my hostess, I performed really well! I had a blast doing this dance. I truly felt that this was one of my greatest performances! Again though, visitation was truly my favorite part!

Funny story...funny now. Not so funny then! After visitation on the second night of prelims. I was stuck in my Coral (aka-the "red" dress) for about 2 hours. After serious struggling from multiple contestants, and Debbie the hostess. One of Elyse's new friends, Miss New Mexico's mother finally freed my from my dress! I am still thankful that she got the dress off without having to go at it with a scissors!

August 9th was yet another day of rehearsals and the third and final night of prelims! I finally got to do the evening gown competition, and we got to perform you can't stop the beat! We got the first ever standing ovation for a production number with this dance! I'm so glad the audience enjoyed watching that dance as much as I enjoy performing it! I also got to compete in evening gown competition this night! I absolutely loved my dress, and felt simply gorgeous on stage!

August 10th was break day (or so they called it!) We had an early appearance on the local Florida Fox News Station. They tempted me, by allowing me to hold a Starbuck's coffee...without actually getting to drink it. This was a lot of fun, although I was super duper sleepy.

After our stunt on live television, we were able to attend the US Dream Academy session. This was so interesting and inspiring! I plan on following in our previous Washington's Outstanding Teen, Steffanie Range's, footsteps by starting another successful Mentor Club here in Washington! I cannot wait to get the opportunity to work with more kids in my community!

We were also able to visit the Mellania Art Gallery. This place was SOOO COOL! Having recently finished an Art History class, I have such an appreciation for the arts. This was so much fun. There was music, art, and potential sponsors!!!! Can anyone say "fundraising?!"

August 11th was my final day with the other states. This last day was an absolute blast and I was able to have one last performance on stage before heading back to Washington!

I'll add more later!!!! This is a huge blog, and my brain cannot quite wrap around all of the typing that is required for this!

Enjoy!

Terissa and I bright and smiling at 4:30 AM in the Portland airport. It doesn't matter how early it is, there is always time for a smile and a photo.

Photo by Zac Grimaldo for Tony Bowls by Mon Cheri! This was as close as we got. Everytime I breathed the bubble would pop, so we had to take the picture fast.

Virtual air hockey!!!

New York and I playing in the crazy mirrors! It was a dark sound booth that told a scary story, and it really felt like you were in the house. We obviously scare easy, by the end of the experience we were all holding hands and screaming.

I even got the opportunity to moonwalk in space!

Miss Montana, Miss Wyoming, and Miss North Dakota were obviously in line for way too long.

Terissa and I waiting for the coaster.

Miss North Carolina and I right before our virtual roller coaster ride. I'm going to blame it on the stress of prepping for Miss America's Outstanding Teen. So here it is, the "catch up" blog. This will probably be the longest blog I'll ever write. After this massive "everything in one big scoop" blog, hopefully, I will learn not to procrastinate and update this more regularly.

I feel like a terrible outstanding teen. The whole point of this blog is to keep the communities informed of everything that I'm doing. I'm obviously not doing a very good job with that!

Well, the first thing I should start with is probably the Autism Kick Off Event in Federal Way. A special thanks to everyone who attended and allowed me the opportunity to assist in your fundraising efforts. Now that I'm back home and settled I plan on becoming a Team Leader for a Cure Autism Now; Walk Now Event. (More information to come!) This was on July 11th. I had so much fun getting to listen to the stories of the individuals who have personally overcome some of the obstacles of autism, along with talking to the families dealing with autism. These people are very strong emotionally and dedicated to making a difference for their children and others suffering from this confusing disorder. I was so honored to be given the opportunity to speak with them. I only hope that I can work with these inspiring people again!

On Friday the 13th (creepy background music) we did our few remaining preparations. Luda of Fit Right in Auburn finished my suits, with impeccable quality and speed. Never have I had a suit fit so well, and I'm really thankful that she was willing to fit me into her busy balance of work and family. She did a fantastic job, and there really are no words to describe my gratitude!

If you couldn't tell already, Friday the 13th (scary music ensues, yet again) was a busy day for me. I was honored to work with a previous Miss Washington title holder, Sharon Rosengreen. She made sure my make up was looking purely fantastic for nationals. With her pageant experience and Mary Kay expertise, I looked grand at every event and occasion despite the 300% humidity that is always present in Orlando, FL. I am so thankful to her for teaching me how to look pretty for all occasions. WHAT WOULD I DO WITHOUT ALL OF THIS SUPPORT?!?!?!

On July 14th, I was granted yet another opportunity for a new experience! I was able to judge the Miss Teen LaCenter pageant. Although this pageant is of no affiliation with the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Program it was still a lot of fun to get the opportunity to meet some amazing girls, and relive the pageant experience from the other side of the table! I was honored to be on the panel when Roxsan Gregg was chosen to be the new Teen LaCenter representative. Congratulations also to Adria Biasi, Anne Parsons, Carlee Marxmiller, and Mary Carroll for being such great representatives. I'm sure that all of the contestants have grown from this experience and their friendships will grow into lifelong bonds. Most of all, I would like to thank Linda Tracy from the Crowning Touch for allowing me this opportunity. Not only has she been of extreme help with dress shopping, she is also just a great person. She genuinely wants young women to become the best they can be, by presenting themselves in all of their individuality on stage.

Not only was the competition exciting, but the entertainment was also thrilling! For those of you who don't know, my favorite class is Rock Music History. My favorite era in Rock Music History is Rockabilly. My favorite artist from the Rockabilly genre is Jerry Lee Lewis. It must have been fate, that put me on the judging panel the year that Lance Lipinsky from the Las Vegas' Legends Show performed his Jerry Lee Lewis tribute in LaCenter! I was so excited to see this! His performance was amazing! I was seriously singing "Whole Lotta Shakin'," for a week straight!

The whole judging experience was just a blast. I got to work with some really amazing people. On the judging panel with me was Kelly Backous, Miss Clark County; Dan Adams, proud dad of 2006 LaCenter Queen; Katie Dunnick, Teen LaCenter for 2005; and Sue Carse, a lovely lady working in entertainment marketing for the New Phoenix and the Last Frontier Casinos. All of us had a blast together! I was also honored to be escorted around town in a vintage limo, by none other than James Irish, the mayor of LaCenter!

It is also necessary that I thank the workers at the casino where we ate, for saving me from the security guards who were pulling me out of the restaurant. I have never before been in a casino. Therefore, I have never before been kicked out of a casino. hahahaha. This was a new experience, and will provide good laughs and funny stories for the rest of my life!

On Friday the 27th, I was honored to get to work with another previous Miss Washington title holder, Breann Parriott Jones! She was kind enough to talk me through the stresses of a national pageant, along with providing modeling and interview tips. She also gave me a copy of Don Baker's "Pageant Bible." This was extremely helpful in making my experience at Miss America's Outstanding Teen the absolute best it could be. She is truly one of the sweetest people I have met, and made the stressful world that is pageant, a little more bearable. I am in total awe of her and her pure amazing-ness. She has definately become a role model in my life, and I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with her.

I was also able to have a small get together with Peggy, Mike, Sally, Allie, Elyse, and my mommy. After hours in traffic, we were able to get together for a small wardrobe check and a delicious dinner and farewell at Olive Garden. By the end of the dinner almost everyone had tears in their eyes from a heartfelt card, and Elyse and I were in stitches laughing at funny presents and sugar highs from one of the great going away presents!

I also was able to participate in the Camas Parade! This was a blast! I got to meet clowns, ducks, and some very cute and talented kids (some of whom, I met previously at Clark County Idol!)

A special thanks to everyone at the Miss Tri Cities pageant! I had a blast performing at the first local pageant of the year! Congratulations to, the new Miss Tri Cities, Kristin Cox!

I am so lucky to be surrounded by such positive people. Everyone was so sweet in making sure I felt my best before I went as a representative. There was no pressure to be the best, simply to do my best. It means so much to be able to have that love and support no matter the outcome. I was so excited at that moment to leave for nationals and represent this program to the absolute best of my ability.

~Genay

Miss Teen La Center, The King, and I!

Crowning Jerry Lee Lewis as the first ever Mr. Teen La Center! hahahahaha

Congratulations Roxsan!

Do you think Allie and Sally will approve my new talent? From now on I will be playing the inflatable guitar!

The judges limo!

Oh, and did I mention that I met ELVIS!?!?!?!

Lord love a duck!! hahaha! These two guys were out in the rain, inviting people to participate in the Quack Up duck races. This is a race hosted by the Camas Washougal Rotary Club, and raises scholarship funds for students in the area! Aren't they a hoot!

Bubbles, the clown, made me a delectable balloon apple! I was really planning on being super efficient with this blog, but somehow my schedule is just not allowing me the time I need to maintain this properly. This will probably be an exceptionally long blog, just to makeup for the fact that I didn't update this as regularly as I should have.

Where to start? on the 23rd I was able to judge the Clark County Teen Idol competition! This was an absolute blast. I was able to work with Miss Greater Vancouver, Heather Laible, as the emcee; Miss Clark County's Outstanding Teen, Chelsea Jordan, as a fellow judge; and Tim Leavitt, a Vancouver City Councilman, as another judge. I was so impressed at how talented the kids in Clark County are! Everyone presented themselves so well (future teen contestants, maybe?) In the end AnnAlise Barton became the designated Clark County Idol! She sang "think" the classic Aretha Franklin song. It was amazing to see such a tiny girl have such a big strong voice! I think that when she hit that very first note, my jaw hit the table. I was so impressed!

Another very exciting event was the coronation of my Greater Vancouver's Outstanding Teen successor. Not only is Mariah Hairston, my pageant buddy, but her and I have been good friends since Freshman year in Skyview's Dance Team! She really is a going to be a great representative of Greater. I have no doubt that she will go far in life, and change the world with her warm heart. I really couldn't have asked for a better successor!

On the 30th, I was able to perform my tap solo, Clap Hands! at the Schell Dance Studio "Time and Place Machine" presentation. This was a fundraiser for the local dancers who are going to be competing and participating in workshops in Las Vegas, NV at a national dance competition. I wish them all the best of luck!!! I also want to thank Marlene Schell, for giving me the opportunity to perform. Not only is she a great dancer and choreographer, but she is basically a family member to me. She has always been so supportive of me. In fact, there is a whole "Genay Message Board" hanging in the studio. She has gathered newspaper clippings, photos, and thank you cards. I really couldn't ask for a better teacher and support system. She is always there for me, and she knows that I'm always here for her.

I was also, really excited to get an opportunity to meet all of the local Miss contestants at the Miss WA arrival! They are all really great girls, and our wonderful role models for young women in Washington!

Now I have good news, and I have bad news.

I'll give you the bad news first. Kristen Edding's year as Miss Washington has come to an end. Kristen is and will continue to be a great role model for me. She was a great representative of this program, and it is very sad to see her go. However, I know she will continue to be successful and positively change the world. The good news is, that I have a new pageant big sister! Congratulations to Elyse Umemoto the new Miss Washington. I can't wait to get to know her better, and I'm so excited that she is going to be coming to Orlando to support me in the Miss America's Outstanding Teen competition.

I would also like to thank the Locals Association, for allowing me the opportunity to speak at their meeting this past weekend. I really learned a lot about the inner workings of the program! Thank you so much, for your continued support!

Last, but not least, I have very exciting news! I have been offered a speaking position for the Northwest Chapter of Cure Autism Now/Autism Speaks on July 11th. I truly can't wait for this opportunity! This gives me the chance to work with more kids and families dealing with autism, spread the message of autism advocacy and awareness, while assisting in a fundraiser and kick off event! This is really a great experience for me, and is the most exciting thing that has happened to me thus far in my year of service!

Until next time,
Genay Tucker

Photos:

Chelsea Jordan, Miss Clark County's Outstanding Teen; Heather Laible, Miss Greater Vancouver; Tim Leavitt, Vancouver Councilman. All working hard at the Clark County Teen Idol Competition!

This is AnnAlise Barton, one of the amazing singers from Clark County!

The Woodland Parade, with the Clark County Girls and the Mustangs Unlimited Club. Half of the money went to the winner, and the other half came to my family to support our trip to Orlando for Miss America's Outstanding Teen!

Mariah Hairston, the new Miss Greater Vancouver's Outstanding Teen! Enjoy your year Mariah! If ever you need any support, you know where to reach me!

My little sister and I! This was fun! I got to work with Mustang's Unlimited from Vancouver. They always have the coolest cars. This was my first appearance as Miss Washington's Outstanding Teen.

I had an absolute blast spending this past weekend up in Auburn with Allison and Sally! These two women are so amazing. I owe them the world. They are unbelievably supportive, and they always keep me smiling!

Right when we got to Auburn, we met up with Sally and Allie at Costelow Photography. The official photographs were taken by Annette Costelow. I can't wait to see the finished product! The photos are sure to look great though, with Gina on makeup, Sally on accessories, Allie on hair, and mom on smiling, we've got all our bases covered. I really don't know how I got along without them prior to the pageant!

Then we went to Allie's house for a look at my wardrobe for Orlando. So far it's looking great, we have a little bit more shopping to do. It's kind of difficult looking for clothing that is weather appropriate in Florida, when I'm so used to Washington's rain!

Then the next morning, Mom, Allison, and I went to Gene Juarez Salon in Bellevue for hair and makeup tips and tricks. I had already met Jake when he came into the Miss Washington's Outstanding Teen Forum for a group hair lesson in April. It was really great working with him again! Next I worked with Paige for makeup. She was so sweet, and made me feel just like the girls on America's Next Top Model!

Once my hair and makeup were covered, it was time for another photo shoot! This time I got to work with Ashley DeLatour of One Thousand Words photography. This photo shoot was so much fun! The weather was beautiful so we got to work outdoors, which was great. Once again, Ashley, Sally, Allie, and my mom made sure I was looking my absolute best at all times. What would I do without this newly formed entourage? I got a little bit of a sneak peak at these pictures, but can't wait to see the entire batch later!!!

Keep an eye out for updated photos from One Thousand Words and Costelow's.

I was so excited to be able to work with Kelly Backous, Miss Clark County, at a fundraiser event for the Clark County/Greater Vancouver Scholarship Organization. Fischer's Landing Burgerville was nice enough to host the event, and give 10% of that evenings profits to the organization. I had a lot of fun delivering, bussing tables, talking with the Clark County board, signing autographs, and recruiting future contestants!

Outside of the pageant world, I just had my 17th birthday! YAY! I also just finished my finals for spring quarter at Clark College! I'm excited to have some time off of school and to have time for more appearances and MAOT preparations!

Until Next Time,
Genay

Photos!

Me riding with Mustang's Unlimited in the Hockinson Parade.

Ariel, a future teen contestant, and I at a Burgerville Fundraiser for the Miss Clark County Scholarship Organization.

Miss Clark County, Kelly Backous, and I after working a long shift at the Burgerville Fundraiser!

For my birthday, my Auntie Teri made me a poster of a very funny pageant picture. I have multiple other events pending, along with my weekly community service at Hough Elementary School in the Special Care Center for autistic children. My family and I are working on a few events right now to help raise money for the trip to Orlando this coming August. Keep a look out for a Jazz for Genay event, and even possibly a Krispy Kreme event (numm!)

I'm still getting used to this role as Miss Washington's Outstanding Teen, it didn't really hit me until I was writing my thank you cards to all of my sponsers and supporters. I had to keep starting new ones, because I would accidentally write Greater Vancouver on them!!! Other than learning my title, I'm just really looking forward to all the opportunities for community service and networking presented to myself and the program.

I think that I'm going to have an absolute blast with the board here at state. I am really excited to add them to my pageant support group! Allie and Sally couldn't possibly be more supportive and informative for me and my family. The Range family has also been truly amazing. They've offered great tips and tricks for the national pageant, along with supportive words under stressful moments. I am just so thankful for everything that has been brought to me through my surrounding support. I am truly honored to be working with such great people throughout the state. Until next time,

Love,

Genay

Photos-

Some of my local board; Marina, Nichola, Me, Cindy, Michelle, and Vilma.

Me and Stefanie Range, Miss Washington's Outstanding Teen 2006.

Kristen Eddings, Miss Washington 2006.
